Energy Efficient Housing Scheme For Malton

Energy Efficient Housing Scheme For Malton

The village of Swinton, near Malton in North Yorkshire, could see a development of 19 energy efficient new homes if planning permission is granted. The Business Desk reports that the new homes will have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A.

Karbon Homes, who are behind the proposals, plan to install air source heat pumps, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging points. THe homes will be aimed across a range of price brackets, with some available to buy through the popular Shared Ownership scheme, and some available for affordable rent.

Phil Lacey, Yorkshire development manager at Karbon Homes, said: “We’ve worked hard to design a development that meets the needs of the local community, with a mix of property types and sizes to provide options for residents at varying stages of life.

“We know there is a demand for housing like this in the area and providing homes that are not only affordable for local residents in terms of rent but use technologies that have the potential to help customers save on their utilities bills, which has never been more important.”

Karbon Homes are a successful housing association who were formed in 2017. Since then they have provided almost 30,000 good quality affordable homes across the Yorkshire region, and also in North East England. THe £5m Swinton scheme is expected to commence in the summer and complete by late 2024, if planning permission is granted.

Meanwhile, Wakefield Council have published details of plans to build 50 affordable homes at Kirkgate. Although no planning application has yet been submitted, the plans for the former Chantry House site are available for view online.

Councillor Denise Jeffery, leader of Wakefield Council, said: “The Chantry House site is just the beginning of our plans to deliver more, better and affordable homes in our district. It is so important to us to create and provide places for people to live and be proud to call home.

She added: “The Kirkgate area is a key gateway into our city, and this is the next vital step in our regeneration plans. This is also the first site of many that we intend to bring forward for affordable housing across the district over the next few years.”

“Good quality housing is the foundation for economic growth and the priority is for Wakefield to have a high-quality housing offer that meets our residents’ needs.”

Sue Young, executive director of Investment at WDH, said: “Providing high quality, affordable homes in places where people want to live is our priority. This development enables us to do just that.”

“The plans for the development include a mix of family homes alongside apartments, helping us to build a diverse community, meet local housing needs and support our economy.”

Wakefield Council is aiming to boost the number of affordable housing in the area as part of the wider long term regeneration plans for Kirkgate. If planning permission is granted, work will commence on the site next year and should be completed by 2026.
