Sheffield Regeneration Project Moving Forward

A major regeneration scheme in Sheffield has made further progress this month, after the developer Litton Buccleuch signed an agreement with a student accommodation provider.

Litton Buccleuch, which is a joint venture between Litton Property Group and Buccleuch Property, is preparing to submit plans for the project on the former Stokes Tiles Centre site, Insider Media reported.

After signing this new agreement, more than 800 student bedrooms would be created as part of the development, which is designed around four connected towers that will deliver living space, as well as retail outlets and cafes on the ground floors.

The news provider revealed that a planning application is due to be submitted shortly, with construction expected to begin in May 2018, when the developer will no doubt require construction scaffolding in Sheffield to get the project off the ground.

Mark Twelves of Litton Buccleuch said that the city council, the universities and planners are “in broad support of the scheme”, adding that it will “complement Sheffield council’s progressive regeneration proposals for the city centre and provide the universities with a further selling platform in a very competitive market”.

This is far from the only new student flats development to be taking shape in Sheffield though. Earlier this month the Star reported that planning permission was granted for a 17-storey block of student accommodation in the city centre.

Once completed, this development will provide 257 bedrooms across a series of three, four and five-bedroom apartments, as well as six-bedroom cluster flats and some single en-suite studios.
