New Office Space Planned For Leeds

The Merrion Centre in Leeds is set to undergo a transformation, with Town Centre Securities having submitted plans to construct a 17-storey office building with retail space.

Construction Enquirer reported on the proposals, which will make up part of a wider redevelopment and refurbishment programme for the centre.

The new tower is set to be constructed near the 12-storey Wade House, and will be above the current Home Bargains store. 16 of the 17 storeys will comprise office space, while the bottom level remains for retail.

In total, it will provide 170,000 sq ft of new office space if the development gets the go ahead.

Edward Ziff, chief executive of Town Centre Securities, told the news provider that the company is committed to investing in the Merrion Centre to develop it as a multi-use destination.

“We have identified considerable latent opportunity within our Merrion estate which we believe provides a platform for future growth and we are therefore delighted to submit this important planning application, launching our second ten-year strategy for the Merrion Centre,” he stated.

To make way for the new office building, a four-storey disused cinema will be demolished.

This isn’t the only major construction project proposed for Leeds at present. Construction Enquirer also recently reported on plans submitted by Ease Treasure Holdings to build five blocks of flats at the Bridge Street site to the north of Leeds city centre.

With so many proposals for high-rise buildings, there’s likely to be a growing need for scaffolders in Leeds in the coming months and years.
