Construction on £8m West Hull Health Hub to Begin in November

A new medical centre off of Calvert Lane is set to begin construction in November, with building contracts for foundation work and scaffolders in Hull being agreed earlier this year and planning permission for the site being granted over two years previously.

The plans for the medical centre involve a significant, two-floor medical space featuring 32 large rooms which will include a mix of treatment rooms, consulting spaces for GPs and nurses, office and clinical support spaces, a lift with wheelchair accessibility, an on-site pharmacy, a baby changing area and a car park adjacent to the facility.

According to Hull Live, temporary traffic lights have been installed on Calvert Lane and work has begun this week to create an access route to the site.

The West Hull Health Hub is set to replace the existing Springhead Medical Centre which has been based at a site on Willerby road for nearly seven decades.

According to executive partner at Modality Partnership Hull, Dr Elizabeth Dobson, Springhead Medical Centre was ultimately not large enough to allow for effective patient care and infection control in the current circumstances as well as in the long term.

The nature of Springhead’s location restricted the amount of expansion and renovation that could take place, which caused overcrowding that would limit the quality of care that could be delivered. A significant construction project was the only alternative in this case.

Construction is set to take 12 months and will ultimately be completed by the end of 2021, although this will depend on the quality of foundations, scaffolding and construction.
