Farm Equipment Company Harvests Larger Premises

GRIMME UK, an international potato, beet, and vegetable machinery retailer, has acquired 4.49 acres of land for an undisclosed sum and is investing £3 million into transforming the site in Market Weighton into its Yorkshire base.

Insider Media reports that the company is a subsidiary of the German-owned GRIMME brand, which also has outlets in Lincolnshire, Shropshire, and Scotland. The firm is relocating from a smaller site, less than an acre, in Dunnington to the new larger location.

Work has commenced on constructing the new high-tech 15,000 sq. ft steel-framed building, and is due to be completed by April 2021.

Leeds property agent Gent Visick marketed the site on behalf of the seller, Britcom, and Procters Property advised GRIMME UK.

Britcom, one of the UK’s leading exporters and largest independent commercial vehicle suppliers within the UK, has been based in Market Weighton for almost 40 years and also exports vehicles to over 65 countries around the world.

Joint managing director at Britcom, Chris Urwin, said: “The sale has assisted us to expand our successful chassis engineering and bodybuilding department, where we are investing more than £1m in the construction of a new six-bay workshop on our existing 14 acre Market Weighton HQ site.”

He explained that the investment will allow the firm to increase its capacity up to 20 workshop bays, and will incorporate a 10-tonne overhead crane that will enable the company to service more customers and quicker.

Paul Mack, director from Gent Visick, said that he had witnessed the increased demand for industrial land on a freehold basis reach record levels all across Yorkshire. He added that the firm was ‘delighted’ to have completed the sale of the land on behalf of Britcom.

The site, on York Road, is located approximately half a mile to the west of Market Weighton and is within nine miles of Beverly, and 15 miles from both Hull and York. The M62 motorway is a little under ten miles away from GRIMME UK’s new premises.

Nick Procter, from Procters, who advised the agriculture machinery firm, said the new site means GRIMME UK will be able to showcase its entire range of farming machinery and enable it to include sales, servicing, parts, workshop and office space all set within a state of the art building.

He added that the prominent position of the site was a major factor in the deal, which will no doubt appeal to the company’s large client base in Yorkshire, and the North of England.

In the vegetable sector, both GRIMME and its subsidiary, ASA-LIFT, build a variety of innovative machines for harvesting onions, red beet, carrots, leeks, chives, celery, fennel, peas and lettuce, as well as crop planting and soil cultivating machinery.

From its UK sites, the company sells its equipment and provides servicing and parts back-up to growers in the root crop and vegetable sector.
