Ambitious Bid To Upgrade Humberside Hospital Services

The Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby would be partially rebuilt as part of the scheme. McConnell said that the region is currently facing a £105m maintenance bill for its healthcare service centres, and a significant proportion of the infrastructure is on the brink of imminent failure.

The Hull Royal Infirmary is already undergoing refurbishment work to improve and upgrade its facilities. The project is expected to take two years, and will include a new assessment unit, a modern pharmacy, and better spaces for visitors and family. A multi-faith area will be created, and parents of children staying at the hospital will have better facilities.

Transport links to Hull city centre from the hospital site will also be improved as part of the scheme. These will encompass new cycle routes and pedestrian routes between the Hull Paragon Interchange. There will possibly also be a new multi-storey carpark.

The area between the hospital and the city centre will be regenerated as part of the scheme, with eco-friendly planting and trees along Anlaby Road. The Council are working in conjunction with planners and transport engineers to create a sustainable plan, which will include decarbonisation initiatives and renewable energy sources.

The final proposals may also include new housing developments for keyworkers and further specialist care facilities. Construction is currently underway of a state-of-the-art diabetes centre at the site.
