Plans For New Sheffield Retirement Village

Plans For New Sheffield Retirement Village

A planning proposal has been lodged with Sheffield City Council for the construction of an integrated retirement community (IRC). The facilities would include up to 62 Extra Care units, as well as a mixture of accessible bungalows, apartments, and cottages. There would also be a range of shops and lifestyle facilities, Insider Media reports.

The developers are Inspired Villages – Senior Living (Dore) Ltd, working in association with DLP Planning and Urban Edge. They plan to redevelop the site of the closed Dore Moor Garden Centre into the new retirement village, which they claim will create up to 56 permanent jobs and 243 construction jobs.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “Whilst there are a series of constraints on development, in particular the site’s location within the Green Belt, there are a series of very special circumstances that individually and cumulatively weigh in favour of the proposal, which in other respects will not give rise to harm.”

It continued: “In particular, the establish need for a substantial increase in the provision of specialist accommodation for the older people supports planning permission being granted where this will genuinely contribute to meeting that need.”

“In this case the proposal is for a purpose designed, dedicated, and integrated retirement community which will encompass a range of facilities to meet a broad spread of older person’s needs.”

Meanwhile, plans have been approved for a new business park at Catterick in North Yorkshire. The 52-acre site will provide much needed warehouse space for the booming ecommerce sector, which continues to grow despite the economic downturn. The £100 business park will be located off Junction 52 of the A1M in Catterick.

Developers Eshton Group, who are based in Leeds, are behind the proposals, and they are also responsible for the successful development of the Burnely Bridge Business Park. Eshton are working in partnership with Castlevale Ltd on the new scheme, which is to be known as Catterick 52.

James Chapman, managing director at Eshton, said: “This is a big step forward for the future of Catterick. The development is a landmark opportunity to attract major investment and employers to the area at a time when other areas of the UK are lacking in their provision of quality commercial space.”

He added: “Over the next few months, we’ll be kickstarting the project to ensure that as soon as possible, Catterick is able to reap the benefits of having a site of this scale in the area. Others like it in the North of England have unlocked huge capital and demonstrate how businesses can thrive when provided with the right environment.”

The developers claim that the project will significantly boost the local economy and create about 1,250 jobs for the area. There is currently a huge demand for warehouse space, which has outstripped supply during 2022, despite the construction of new warehouses throughout the UK amounting to millions of sq feet.
