Leeds Undergoing Construction Boom

There are a lot of cranes on the Leeds city skyline at present, with the Yorkshire Evening Post recently highlighting the number of large-scale developments currently being undertaken in the city.

Four buildings of up to 12 storeys each are being constructed by Dandara in the Holbeck area of the city, which will deliver 744 apartments once they’re completed.

The project is costing around £70 million and is expected to be ready for people to start moving in by June 2019.

Dandara’s project director Sean O’Connor explained that the apartments in these buildings would be available to rent, in the private rental sector, noting that this kind of development can “help deliver homes needed by those who want to live and work in Leeds”.

As well as more private rented accommodation, there are also new developments of student accommodation springing up in the city.

Construction Enquirer recently reported on a project by R G Group, which will deliver a 22-storey tower of student accommodation in the centre of Leeds on Belgrave Street.

Plans show that the building will be L-shaped and clad in white brick, with an eight-storey lower section connected to the 22-storey tower housing 350 student studio flats.

The existing building on the site – Symonds House – is due to be demolished this month, with construction on the new building beginning shortly after. This scheme is due to be delivered in time for the start of the 2019/20 academic year.
