Huge South Yorkshire Development Plans Unveiled

Plans for a huge mixed-use development in South Yorkshire have been revealed, which includes a colossal distribution and training centre, a new business hub, school, transport facility and newbuild properties.

A national retail giant has agreed to purchase the 79-acre plot in Doncaster from Waystone Hargreaves Land LLP, Yorkshire Post reported.

It will be located in Doncaster Unity’s Connect Zone at Junction 5 of the M18 and will feature two million square feet of employment space, a new marina, a school, open spaces and 3,100 new homes. It is thought the project will contribute £900 million to the local economy over the next two decades by creating more than 7,000 jobs.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones stated: “Given the uncertain times we are currently facing, this is welcome news for the local area and wider borough.”

It was added this will provide “major economy growth” for the city in the future, with the mayor commenting: “It is just the start of the transformational Unity Project.”

Waystone Hargreaves is a joint venture between Hargreaves Land and construction and development specialist Waystone. Director of the partnership Stuart McLoughlin said it was “fantastic” to have agreed the deal, particularly at such an early stage in the development.

He added this will “unlock the remaining plots for commercial design and build opportunities”, which could bring further good news for the Doncaster region.

This comes after investment and property development company Accumulate Capital revealed it will finance Doncaster Enterprise Park, enabling the £12 million project for 79 Grade A starter units across 90,050 square feet to go ahead.

These developments could mean demand for scaffolding companies in Sheffield is set to grow over the next few months.
